The Company's ownership (Carolyn LH Degenhart) is backed by an extensive history of transportation specialists. In the southwest region of the United States dating back to 1937 the family focused on transporting students, representing bus manufacturers and being active on a national level for the safety and innovative means of school transportation.
The owner's family heritage began in 1937 when Fred Farmer (Great Uncle) transported school children in the East Sandia Mountains of New Mexico. 1959 brought in the owner's parents (Tom & Esther Helweg) and Grandmother (Alva Parker) to continue and development the business into Helweg & Farmer Transportation Co. Inc. The company expanded into the Albuquerque area, Bernallilo County in 1963 including a charter business touring visitors along the "Turquoise Trail". Helweg & Farmer Transportation Co. Inc. extended transportation services to Southern New Mexico (Las Cruces) in 1988.
1993 - Blue Bird was the family's only choice in bus purchases, resulting in a distributorship for Blue Bird Body Co.
1996 - Helweg and Farmer Transportation Co. Inc. had grown to a fleet size of approximately 420 units, before Tom & Esther retired from the bus transportation industry after a loyal 59 years of family contracting.
1997 - Blue Star Bus Sales, Ltd. was formed. Locating in Lubbock, Texas in order to best serve the entire West Texas region. Key personnel was hired and the business has adapted to meet the needs of our industry and primarily our customers.
